Wessex Youth Fanfare
Saturday Morning Rehearsals
10:30am – 12pm
Conductor: Peter Turnbull
Playing level grades 5-7  (No audition requirement to join)

The Wessex Youth Fanfare is a wind band with currently more than 30 players. It welcomes young musicians with a playing ability of grades 5-7. As wind and brass players require grade 7 or higher to be able to request an audition for the Wessex Youth Orchestra, these members tend to spend many happy years learning their trade with the WYF, rehearsing a wide variety of music from the traditional concert band repertoire as well as music from film, musicals, jazz and rock.
The WYF rehearses for 90mins each week, giving the members the opportunity not only to work on more advanced repertoire, but also to reap the benefits and rewards of longer rehearsals:
  • working in a more detailed fashion
  • improving concentration
  • building stamina
The WYF takes part in the three main CWYM concerts each year including two appearances at Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts. But the WYF but has also added to its annual concert quota taking part in concert tours (most recently to Cornwall), and also performing at Bournemouth Library’s Music Zone, Cherry Tree Nurseries and Kingston Lacy.
Awards:
  • November 2013 - Gold Award - National Concert Band Festival regionals in Cheltenham
  • November 2017 - Silver Award - NCBF regionals, Cheltenham
