Information for all WYO members: Over the last 46 years the Wessex Youth Orchestra has built up a reputation for its high quality performances and professional approach to all its events. On joining the WYO, it becomes every new member's responsibility to ensure that this proud tradition continues. These guidelines should be followed by WYO members carefully. 1. Concerts/Rehearsals/ Schedules: The WYO concert dates are settled and booked up to 18 months in advance. Members will be informed of a following season’s concert dates by email each summer, and then regularly throughout a season on the WYO schedules (for WYO members and families only) and by email. The concert dates will also be listed on the CWYM newsletter “Tutti” and on the website Concert Schedule page. Please do your best to ensure that you will be available to play in at least the 3 main Lighthouse concerts each season. Members are also required to attend at least 70% of the rehearsals throughout the term. There is a waiting list for many of the WYO places and so in order to maintain your position in the orchestra or your section, you must do your very best to meet this requirement. In addition, so as to ensure participation in a concert performance, members are required to make themselves available for that concert's “red rehearsal” as shown on the schedules. “Reds” will include the final balance call on concert days and one full day of rehearsal – on the last Saturday prior to concert day. Please check schedules for exact dates. If you are unable to attend the “red rehearsal” or in fact several rehearsals prior to a concert/performance, you must expect to be replaced for that performance. 2. Practice: All members will be expected to take music away to practise during the week before the following rehearsals. In addition, do take your music to your lessons and ask your teachers for advice on how to tackle your orchestral practice.
Music copies: All borrowed parts must be returned at the following rehearsal. Do not take music away if you know that you are unable to attend the next rehearsal. If you are unexpectedly absent – please do your best to return borrowed music – via a friend etc.
Planned rehearsal/concert absences: If you know in advance that you are unable to take part in a concert or will not be able to attend a rehearsal or need to leave earlier than usual – please inform Susanna in writing, as soon as possible. This will allow her to organise and book a replacement player for the concert, or to rearrange a rehearsal plan accordingly.
Missing music fines: All parts must be returned by concert day. We have a returning deadline with music hire libraries and if an incomplete set is returned, fines will be incurred. These fines will be passed on to the member responsible. Make sure it isn’t you!
